Life, Hope, and Beauty

"Cause I've been waiting my turn
Pressure's on
Now your heart is beating
To the sound of my name,
Come on out and find me..."

-Christina Grimmie

As I sit here staring at a blank screen, the haunting and beautiful voice of Christina Grimmie flows in soulful melody through the speakers. I couldn't really think of much to really say except that this weekend's tragic events in Florida occupy the space of my thoughts. Though far in distance, I find that as I get older, these events don't seem so far anymore and the people? Not strangers, but fellow humans that I wish did not have to suffer through this.

It's often said that though artists have various mediums, various channels by which to express their art, we can still glean inspiration from each other. The potter to the dancer, the sketch artist to the musician, the painter to the photographer. It's quite beautiful actually, this connection.

I first came across Christina Grimmie's music when I was looking up various performances by the incredibly talented dancers, Keone and Mari Madrid. Maybe it's the loss-for-words, graceful movement, maybe it's the heart and soul of Christina's voice, maybe it's the beautiful notes of every key struck on the piano. Her song, "Find Me" immediately pulled at my heart in for a listen. Whatever it is, the joining of these artists produced something beautiful and worth sharing. Maybe, in the wake of all of these tragedies, it's tiny glimmer of a reminder that there's still beauty, there's still life, there's still hope.

Dentures, Guava Juice, and Truly Seeing

We'd just recently returned from a trip to Kauai. It's our favorite island in Hawaii and almost feels like a second home to us.  I sometimes wonder what it would be like to retire there, sipping cold glasses of guava juice even through our dentures, enjoying the season of our "old and grey" years of life together there.

There's nothing like the welcoming feeling the warm breeze of the islands gives you the minute you step off the plane. Along with our usual stops into our favorite eateries - Hamura's Saimin, Tip Top Motel Cafe, Kalaheo Cafe, just to name a few - our time was spent taking in the scenery around us, dodging a few tropical storms between the Poipu southside and Princeville northside of the island, and just basically slowing down for a bit.

I can never get enough of the well-known beauty that is Kauai. Amazingly, even beyond the sandy beaches, blues and whites of the powerful ocean, and golden sunrise, I smiled to see that indeed there was art everywhere if I stopped and took time to truly see.

Here's to always taking the time to truly see. Aloha, folks.

Happy Thursday!

Shoes and Flowers

Flowers? Colorful and cool.
Fashion? Uber fun.
Flowers meet fashion AND displayed in San Francisco?

YES, PLEASE!!!!!!

This weekend my husband and I celebrated 7 years of dating (yes, we still celebrate that!) and decided to check out the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco. It was their annual Bouquet to Arts Exhibit where floral designers take their love of all things floral and use it to interpret existing sculptures, paintings, & artifacts in the museum.

I love when artists of all mediums mix it up, bake it up, and shake it up to produce displays that make you go oooooooooooooh.

And that red shoe with the flowers displayed in it? Oh, how I love thee.

Have a wonderful Monday!
